Thanksgiving

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, its true. 2 posts on one day. Well, if we're lucky I'll have enough wit to pour through my fingers to get us into Friday. Hahaha, Black Frisay - what a crazy day. Are there crazy people everywhere that will wake up in like 4 hrs to go stand in line at freakin Wal-Mart so that they can be the first ones in...or is that just in Texas? It ALMOST makes me want to go down there and film all the people there. I must admit, I have a very poor stereotype of typical big hair fat Texan women that are there waiting...but you know what? I would bet you $1000 that I'm right. I guarantee you that if I were to show up at 4am at the local Wal-Mart here in Houston the majority of people waiting would be women wearing sweatshirts with sparkly glittery things on them with large hairsprayed heads of hair - and people, they would KILL you to get that gift. Detroit is dangerous? Hell, just try getting in the way of a Texan mom trying to get her son the new PS3. THATS danger!

Anyway, rather than talk crap about people that I think are funny, I think its probably more important today that we look at the things that we are thankful for. Do we even know what Thanksgiving is anymore? I swear that one of the first things that pops into my head in the Brady Bunch episode where they reenact the Indians and the Pilgrims meeting. Remember? Yes you do! SHUT UP! However it started, I think its interesting how we see it today. Gathering of friends and family to eat...and watch Football. By the way, my COWBOYS are 10-1! Ummm, yeah! HOW BOUT' THEM COWBOYS???!!!! Ok, sorry...had to get that out. I am sick today. I came down with a pretty nasty cold 2 days ago and I seriously hope that today was the worst and that it will only get better from here. So, while I was here, I wasnt really here. I did get to see my baby step-niece. - she is the cutest little girl! She just learned to walk. Isnt it crazy that one day you cant walk, and then all of a sudden you figure it out? Crazy, right?

I got to see my Granma and Grandad that live here in Houston and got to talk briefly with my Grandad that lives in Midland. He is currently in the hospital and isnt doing all that well, so, I was very thankful to get to speak with him. Anyway, whatever...you all dont care who of my family I saw - its just important that I got to see pretty much everyone! So, it was a good day overall.

Tomorrow I am headed over to my oldest friend's house to meet his newborn son. I cant believe that he is a Dad! Duuuuude~! Ok, I think that I'm finally running out of steam.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful day of greets and eats.

The most DANGEROUS city in ALL THE WORLD

Did you know that Detroit is the most dangerous city in all the world? Did you know that there are more murders there than anywhere else? ...hmmm, and yet I survived. (I cant count the number of people that have asked / told me that in the past 2 days!) I had an absolute blast in Detroit. Mozart is always a welcomed friend. I got to sing the Count in Le nozze di Figaro with a great cast, a wonderful conductor and THE BEST damn wig/makeup designer that I have ever worked with. Seriously, this chick is for reals. Plus, I met the most amazing people...in various different situations.

Lets take for example dinner out with 2 of my oldest friends after my Saturday night performance. It was late, so we decided to hit the IHOP that was nearest our hotel in "Dangerous Detroit". It was a mere 1.5 miles away. I have to say that from outside things seemed normal. We saw the familiar sign out front and there were plenty of late night customers. It was upon entry that things got weird! As soon as we entered the first set of doors we were greeted by a 6'4" 350+ black man that was working security detail at the IHOP! (how do you even get that job?) - anyway, he looked at us like we were from mars and said, "Ok, hands up, I gotta pat you down..." - Yes, I was FRISKED at the IHOP!? Where ARE we?? In Detroit my friends, the most dangerous city in all the universe.

So, other than blood on the sidewalk and being patted down at the IHOP there were pretty great times. This cast and group of people working on this production for the most part were the best peeps ever. You know who you are, and you know how much I love and miss you all! Thats what sucks about this business - learning to say goodbye to people. Dont get me wrong, sometimes its MUCH easier than others. But when you really make a connection with someone and know that it could be months or years before randomly seeing them again, its hard. I'm still learning how to deal with that.

One idea was to bring back the entourage! Everywhere I go I'd have my own costumer, my own makeup/wig designer, my own PR rep...you get the idea. That would rock. I say that we bring back the day of the singer. I'm very tired of being the bottom rung on the ol' totem pole. Its funny, I mean, we more than not get respect - but we are mere monkeys that are painted up and dressed up to sing for a paying audience. (or at least sometimes it feels like that)

Ok, enough singer-crap talk.
