Tis' the season...

Fa la la la la la la la la! Hey, remember that scene in the Christmas Story when they go eat at that Chinese restaurant and they end up having duck? Hahahah! Thats a funny movie, and I am sure one that we will see on every channel in the week to come. I absolutely love this time of year. Christmas always seems so magical to me! Maybe its all the lights that are on at night now. Maybe its that crisp in the air? Maybe its because my birthday is the 24th? hint hint! heehee! Yes, I will be 33 this year. Hey, I'm excited to get older! You see, it seems that age means something in my career. As a singer there tends to be a few different levels or categories that we are thrown into. "Oh, you're a baby!" - I think this one lasts from like 18 - 28. Then, magically on your birthday you are a "young singer" now ready and expected to have participated in various "young artist programs". I think that the "young artist" lasts from maybe 28 - 35? I wouldnt know, as I am merely 32. (well, for another 8 days) The weird thing is, it seems that you go from "young artist" to "veteren performer" overnight!? Maybe "young" lasts until you are 40. I remember reading somewhere not too long ago that a very famous soprano that we all know was mentioned as "the young soprano". What? Hmmmm, what was my point? Oh yeah! Its almost my birthday! heehee!

You know what else happens around this time? Thats right, Messiahs. Is it ok to mention the word Messiah in the plural? ...hmmm, would it then be Messiahs? Anyway, I leave on Tuesday for Nashville, TN to sing a Messiah...my last gig of 2007. It should be fun, as the other singers have been known to lay it down from time to time. ;-)

In other news, can the Cowboys make it 8 wins in a row against the Eagles? YES THEY CAN!!! C'MON COWBOYS!!!

New York City?

Yes, I'm back in the city. Isnt there a song about that? Hmmm... Well, I gotta say, this is a place that I like my blogging friend over at Hobo Camp, that I love to hate. But, today was an extra special day. I walked out the door here in Queens and it was snowing! I absolutely love it when it snows in New York City! I guess its that first snow excitement?! I dunno, but I love it. What I DONT love is how dry the air gets, and with all the automatic heaters here in NYC, then the dryness in the apartments, etc. Ugggh. I need a humidifier and NOW! But, alas...its too cold to go to the store to get one, catch 22. This afternoon I had the delight of singing for Portland Opera in the rehearsal room in the complicated never-ending maze of what is underneath New York City Opera. It went quite well! I started with Ford and they asked for Enrico. Good stuff. Afterwards I had a wonderful lunch / talk / planning session with my fabulous manager and then headed back out into the snow on the trek back to Queens. Its really not that bad staying out here. I kinda wish that I lived out here when I lived in the area rather than down in the Princeton area. But, whatcha gunna do? (spoken in thick NJ accent)

Tomorrow I will get to see my niece and nephew for the first time!!! I'm VERY excited! I also get to see my sister and her partner...but, I'm a LITTLE more excited to see the munchkins!!! heehee. Pictures will be posted tomorrow!

Until then...
